Problems with outlook 2000

Hi,

My outlook 2000 was working fine until yesterday. But today it froze
when downloading email from the server.
At first I tried restarting my computer(because it fixes things
sometimes),but that didn't fix anything. As per some of the solutions
on the internet.
I searched for files outcmd.dat and extend.dat. and renamed them and
opened outlook in safe mode. That worked but I couldn't download my
email.

Then I backed up my outlook.pst file, renamed my current outlook.pst
file and created a new account. The pst file for this account is
personalfolders1.pst.

Now I could download me email and send email.

But i keep getting a message saying that outlook couldn't file
outlook.pst file.
Is this because I named my new pst file as personalfolders1.pst? And
also my old outlook.pst file was renamed.

I thought renaming my old outlook.pst file would solve the problem?
But it sent me back to sqaure 1. So I renamed it again and everything
was well again. But I still get the message "could not find
outlook.pst".

Also in addition to this outlook is prompting me for my password when i
open my new account. why is that?

Also will it give me problems in importing my old outlook.pst which i
have renamed.?

Please help me figure this out.

Thanks

B
