Problems with ICM and Epson R800

I cannot seem to get ICM profiles working properly from Photoshop when
printing to my Epson R800.

I have a Spyder and Optical and have profiled my monitor so I am reasonably
confident that what I see is what I want on the printer. I select advanced
on the printer options and use ICM and select Off but when I preview the
output before it even goes to the printer it is way off colour and far too
light. If I select to use the printer ICM and manually select the correct
profile then the preview looks more or less correct. When I actually print
the page it comes out looking pretty much like the preview, so what the
preview shows is pretty much what the printer prints.

So it would appear (at least to me) like the ICM Off function is not
working. I am using the latest driver package from the Epson UK site. I run
W2K SP4 and it has just been reinstalled so its a pretty clean OS. The
printer uses the Firewire connection.

Has any one any ideas or suggestions as to how to fix this?

BUT what are you setting in Photoshop "Colour Settings" and Photoshop "Print
with Preview".

The preview window in Photoshop Print with Preview should be fairly accurate
for colour, but only fairly. The preview you get in the Epson Driver
Preview is only accurate for position on the page.

Just to clarify I am using the appropriate profile with perceptual in
Photoshop. I understand the preview is only fairly accurate but what I am
seeing is so way out that it HAS to be wrong.

I have reviewed the workflow mentioned and tried it out, although things
have improved a bit it still does not solve the problem.

Hi.

I presume you have removed Adobe Gamma from your system, and are using Epson
Ink and Paper, and are using the Epson canned profile for your specific
paper.

These are usually fairly accurate, but are really only accurate for those
few printers which exactly match the production tolerances. All the other
printers will be slightly out, but not greatly inaccurate.

You would normally only notice the difference after using a Custom Profile,
made specifically for your own Printer and that paper.

The most common causes of inaccuracy with Colour Management are the Monitor
Profile & Double Profiling, but there are many other sources for error, and
it is possible that your Printer is faulty.

It could be that you need a Custom Profile, but I would suspect that there
is a simple error somewhere in your workflow, get someone else to check all
your settings.

Are you sure that in Photoshop's print dialog box that you've checked "let
Photoshop manage the color" or something to that effect.

Turn off all ICM in the Epson driver.
