Problems with Control Panel/Display/Desktop

If I try to select a new desktop from the list after 3 or 4 previews the
system fails /freezes and usually I get the following message

I do not understand why I am getting this error or how to correct it.

I didn't see anyone respond to your question. My error is slightly different.
I am getting a RUNDLL error and followed the previous answers dating back to
2004/2005 ;however they didn't resolve my issue.
After a while having my laptop on(about 5 minutes) I get the RUNDLL with the
following message " Error Loading $oO" The specified module could not be
found. As soon as I get that error I am unable to connect to the internet or
do anything on the internet.. Any ideas?
