problems when trying to open folders

With Outlook 2000 I'm having an impossible time trying to
open folders. I'm able to get the window that says "Click
push pin to keep open" but the instant I put the cursor
in the window, it disappears. It had worked fine for a
couple of years prior, but this crazy problem has popped
up within the last several weeks. I've tried doing a
repair, but the problem persists. Any advice?

Yes, View->Go To->Folder does work, without closing on me.
