problems reinstalling system software

I am getting an "Unable to read from or wtrite to the database" error
during an xp sp1 to xp sp2 upgrade.

I had my hard drive go bad. Installed a new hard drive, recovered the
Media Center system from OEM recovery disks, no errors. Downloaded and
installed all updates between sp1 and sp2. Initially installed sp2
with no errors. Something went wrong during the mce 2002 to mce 2005
upgrade. Did a system restore, it put me back to sp1. Installed all
the updates and patches reccomended by the manufacture (HP) prior to a
sp2 upgrade. Started the sp2 upgrade, it gets to the installing
section (after the initialization stage), and then I get the error
above. Click OK and it gives me a "Service Pack 2 installation did not
complete." message.

Any clues as to what might be wrong or need any more info.

Thanks

Also check with the HP website for any tech support documents
regarding Service Pack 2 and your specific HP computer model.

Good luck

Ron,

Thanks for the links, I will spend some time today looking the info
over. As far as HP goes, after updating through windows update,
everything prior to sp2, I went through the hp website and updated
every driver that they reccommended. When I went through this
originally (before hard drive crash) I had no problems with any of
this.

Any other suggestions are appreciated.
