Problems opening PDF outside of explorer

Hello,

I've got Win2K/SP4. My internet explorer (IE) is
version 6. I just downloaded Adobe Acrobat
Reader 6. After that, PDF files started opening
within the IE browser. I did two things. First,
I read the acrobat reader help. It said I should
deselect the Acrobat preference for displaying
PDFs inside the browser. I did this with no
IE browsers running. I also opened up a windows
explorer (the file system browser), chose
Tools->FolderOptions->FileTypes, and associated
PDF files with Acrobat Reader 6. I tested that
this binding took by double clicking a PDF file,
and confirmed that it worked.

Unfortunately, when I click on a link to a PDF
file within IE, it just gives me a blank page
with a symbol on the upper left corner. The
symbol is a small box with small square, circle
and triangle inside of it. Presumably, it means
it can't the target of the link. However, I know
they are good links because I used a unix netscape
browser to access them. I was also able to access
them using IE about an hour before.

What should I do?

Fred
