File Association

Eric

Hello,

I have on my PC Acrobat Standard 6.x and Acrobat Reader 9.1.2.
When I click twice on a PDF file from Explorer, Acrobat Reader 9.1.2 is
launched.
When I open a PDF attachment within OE, Acrobat Reader 9.1.2 is launched but
if I try to click on a PDF hyperlink within IE, then Acrobat Standard 6.x is
launched.
I am confused, I checked the files association and Acrobat Reader 9.1.2
should be started everytime but it's not the case.

What am I missing?

Thank you.

Eric,

When you install Acrobat Writer you are usually asked which application you
want to be the default opening the pdf documents

You could always go into:

Open any folder
TOOLS | FOLDER OPTIONS | FILE TYPES tab
Highlight PDF & chage all the verb to point to your chosen application

One will be pointing to the Acrobat 6 folder & the other to Acrobat Reader 9
folder in Program Files

As I said: ..."I checked the files association and Acrobat Reader 9.1.2

Thank you.

Eric,

On my system if you right-click you have the default application in which I
chose the writer, but you also have the open with the reader option too
which is also another verb under the file associations

db

double check the
registry.

click on start>run>
regedit

then an easy way
to find the branch
of keys pertaining
to file associations

press f3 or do a
search from the menu
and enter .html

then browse that branch
until you find .pdf

this is the key that is
modified by the file
types via the explorer.

however, you may simply
have to delete it the entire
key and recreate it via the
explorer.

but take a close look around
and if there is anything pertaining
to the 9 version, you might
be able to modify it.

-------------------

another thing to review is
the startups in msconfig.

you may have to delete
the one pertaining to the
9 version because it may
be engineered to ensure
that file association is set
to it at each startup.

----------------------

finally, make a system
restore point before modifying
the registry.

the change mentioned
above won't cause any
harm to your system,

but it's best to be safe
than sorry.

I uninstalled both standard 6.0 and reader 9.0 and reinstalled standard
first and then the reader. Now the reader open all the time execpt when I
open a PDF attachement from Outlook Express (Standard 6.0 opens instead)...
