File association gone mad.

Hi, some our users had Adobe Acrobat 4.0 installed since a long time
ago. Now, we receive more and more PDF files in newer format version
(for no good reason!) I install Acrobat Reader 9.0 and everything look
fine at first, but we're using Outlook Express 6.0 and it look for the
"open" action of PDF file association, which is not properly changed
by the installer. The problem is that when I edit the "open" action on
a particular workstation to change it to version 9.0, after I close
the dialog, the file association is automatically changed back to
version 4.0. Do anybody know what could cause such weird behavior?

Thanks

Hi Budu,

Try uninstalling AA4 and then reinstall AR9. Better yet, try Foxit
Reader. It's smaller and faster:

Thanks for your suggestion, I'll certainly end up uninstalling AA4.
Yes Foxit is great, but can't always print all PDF correctly. Mind
you, I've seen PDF that AR9 cannot print well and Foxit can! I think
PDF is really not that well suited as a document exchange format
anymore.

I agree. I have also found that some websites use Adobe specific API's
that will ONLY open with Adobe Reader. I've contacted those websites
and apparently Adobe gives them out free of charge, so if a site has
Adobe implemented, they're not going to change it. So I have to keep a
version of AR (7) on this workstation just in case.
