Outlook Express file association

I am running XP Home and the version of Outlook Express that comes with it.

If a file is sent with an attachment .PDF and I double click on the
attachment to open it, I get a no file association message with instructions
to go to Control Panel, file associations and establish the relationship
there. When I do this, .PDF is defined to open with the Acrobat reader. If
I save the attachment to my hard drive and double click on it, it
immediately opens it with the Acrobat reader.

How do I fix this problem with OE?

Thanks

I'd first try reinstalling (or updating) your PDF reader, with OE closed. If
you get no help there, try posting in an OE group - OE isn't really part of
XP, it's a separate program that's part of IE.

Try microsoft.public.windows.inetexplorer.ie6_outlookexpress.

If this group isn't carried on the news server that's carrying this group,
try using news.microsoft.com as your NNTP server.

A good website for information on OE is http://www.insideoe.com/

Easy, download and install Thunderbird from
http://www.mozilla.com/thunderbird. It will not only solve that problem
but give you an excellent junk mail feature along with real time spell
check. When you install it, it will ask you if you want to import all
the messages from Outhouse Distress.

To back it up, all you need to do is copy the folder in the Profiles
folder under the Thunderbird folder. When you reinstall, you nuke the
files in that folder and replace them with your backed up copies. Not
only does that restore your message but your rules and emails accounts
as well.

Thunderbird will continue to have support. Microsoft has virtually given
the finger to those who want Outhouse Distress support.

Save the attachment to your HDD. Right click on it and Open With | Choose
Program. Find and choose a program that works and then check the box: Always
use this program to open this kind of file. This should enable you to open
these attachments in the future.
