Acrobat Reader 7.0.5 - File Association?

F

Fred S

Hi folks,

I installed Acrobat Reader 7.0.5 a while ago and it works fine despite
the fact that the darn program gets larger and larger.

I recently ran into a weird problem when using Windows Explorer to
locate a "8.pdf" in a folder where I store specific ones.

I noticed that a right click produces an "open with Acrobat Reader 705"
line which works fine.

I also noticed that double clicking any "pdf" extension does NOT work.

I've tried all the usual things, I've tried to change the file
association using file types and after I choose the "AcroRd32.exe"
executable - it does NOT appear in the list whether or not I've also
selected "Always use this program to open the selected file type."

It will simply not let AcroRd32.exe be chosen - so when I double click,
nothing happens.

Does anyone have another alternative?
Where are the file associations "lists" of programs located in the registry?

Thanks, Fred

Ramesh,

How large would this log file be? "IF" the butts guy would be
around.....you would be catching some heavy-duty flack!

Kelly,

The log will be a max of 5KB, and contains nothing but the following key
exports:

HKCR\.PDF
HKCR\<ProgID>
and two other related branches.

BTW, I checked the HJT log is 8KB or even more depending. Anyway this is way
different from HJT / malware removal (which is not supported in these
groups)

Thanks for the reply, Ramesh.

Ah....should have known you were up to par with all of this. Good luck with
the OP and log.

Ramesh,

Thanks but I decided to uninstall Acrobat Reader v705 and
reboot/reinstall it - that almost worked.

I had to click on the extension, then choose program, picked from two
Acrobat 7 items in the list and one of them works.

So now, I plan to remove the others from the registry and that should
take care of it.
