Problems installing any CD/DVD burning software

Guest

I have tried numerous times to install different CD/DVD burining software
(Veritas, Roxio, Nero, etc.), and each tim my system locks right at the very
end when the install tries to modify the registration. I have no idea what
the problem is, and can only assume it is windows related, since I have tried
more thatn 3 types of burning software. Can anyone help me? Thank you.

Hi,

Does the event viewer show anything? Start/run eventvwr.msc and check the
system and application logs to see. An error message or error code could be
useful in figuring out what's wrong. More information on the Windows
Installer and issues surrounding it:

These were the only two messages that were received:

Event ID 5603:
A provider, Rsop Planning Mode Provider, has been registered in the WMI
namespace, root\RSOP, but did not specify the HostingModel property. This
provider will be run using the LocalSystem account. This account is
privileged and the provider may cause a security violation if it does not
correctly impersonate user requests. Ensure that provider has been reviewed
for security behavior and update the HostingModel property of the provider
registration to an account with the least privileges possible for the
required functionality.

For more information, see Help and Support Center at

Event ID 1517:
Windows saved user DESKTOP1\Family registry while an application or service
was still using the registry during log off. The memory used by the user's
registry has not been freed. The registry will be unloaded when it is no
longer in use.

This is often caused by services running as a user account, try configuring
the services to run in either the LocalService or NetworkService account.

For more information, see Help and Support Center at
http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/events.asp.

Hopefully this helps.

Hi,

The second one is a non-event, nothing to worry about. The first one seems
to indicate that there is a software restriction policy in place - is this
system on a domain, or were you messing with the local security or group
policy editors?

Hi Joe,

If it's a public machine, whomever set it up would most certainly have put
some policies in place, else it would be subject to all sorts of abuse.
