Problems in upgrade.

I have downloaded the latest version of WD but it fails to upgrade saying can
not uninstall the old version of itself. When I try to manually uninstall it
it asks for the old WindowsDefender.msi file, which I do not have! How can I
uninstall it without this file, if its not possible then can someone point me
to a source where I can get it. My current Windows Defender Version:
1.1.1347.0.

Thanks.

I have exactly the same problem. It is looking for the file in a temporary
internet files folder, as I apparently installed on the fly.

I am also having this same problem. Someone's got to have the solution out
there. I'm glad I found this site. I've been trying everything to fix this
for the last two hours.

I had the same problem and after trying all the suggestions on this forum
that didn't work I went on the internet and found the old installation files
at http://mymirrors.homelinux.org/freeware/WindowsDefender/. ; I copied the
Beta2 .msi file to the location the new Windows Defender install was looking
for (had to also rename it slightly to match what it was looking for) and
then the install could FINALLY complete.

I know getting files off the internet from an unknown source is risky but
since Microsoft is not offering these old files that I could find, I felt I
had to use this file to allow the new Defender to uninstall the old. The new
install file came from Microsoft.

Well, I downloaded the Windows Installer Cleanup from Microsoft and removed
the old version of defender with it. Then removed the folder under 'Program
Files'. I am not sure if it leaves some dlls behind in system area (the
cleanup utility should take care of it), but it worked in my case.

Hope it helps others.
