problems downloading from windows Update

Please help.I have been unable to download any updates
from windows Update.I have a pentium P4, with windows XP
and use AOL.When I select 'review and install' the
updates, it appears that the download is progressing well
but the the next part which is the install aprt of the
update does not happen at all>And when I check
the 'installation history', it reports as failed.
I wonder whether there is a way around this.I would be
grateful for any ideas.

Locate the WindowsUpdate.log file under \Windows or \Winnt. Open it and
scroll to the bottom. Look at the error codes and compare them against this
site:
http://v4.windowsupdate.microsoft.com/troubleshoot/
