After a major crash on an XP Home SP2 notebook, I did a non-destructive
restore. Computer is workin fine but I am left with a rather large My Backup
Folder. I was able to delete about half the files and folders. Tech support
from the manufacturer had me "take ownership" by booting into safe mode as
administrator and through properties, enable all the check boxes then
advanced to "take" ownership. Then a normal boot. This, I was told, would
allow me to delete the files. It didn't work.
I have tried the suggested remedy on each individual folder and file and
also on the Backup file. Neither work. The delete process begins but halts
with an "access denied" message for a file flash9b.ocx which I think is part
of Adobe. Even after taking ownership, that file shows as a "read only".
The manufacturer suggests a destructive restore which is not what I want to
do but I need to delete the rest of this backup file of nearly 4gig.
TIA
