Problem restoring backup files

I used the xp home utility to back up my files to an external hard drive.
That went fine. I then reinstalled xp operating system form OEM disc to solve
a problem. Problem was solved, but now I can't seem to get the utility to
restore the backup files from the external hard drive. In the restore and
manage window, there are no items to check and the backup files, media
location etc. for the external hard drive don't appear (but I know they are
there).
Reviewing previous questions, I felt that ownership of the files might be
the problem, so I added all rights to owner for documents and mail as well as
the backup folder on the external drive, but that didn't help. Any advice
would be greatly appreciated.

Are you using the same version to restore the files that you used to back
them up.

Glenn if you figure out what you need to do in getting files restored please
post what you did. I had to restore my computer back to its original state
and did what they called a non-destructive restore and did a backup of files
on my c drive but now the files I would like to add back to computer is
there but I cannot figure out or get a answer if I can restore some of the
files back or no way. I didn't do the backup utility and when I try to
restore through the wizard I get the same thing u do no files found but I
know my files are in the c drive. Any help from someone would be very much
apprective.

Hi,
If the files are there and you can see them using windows explorer then use
explorer to copy the files back to their original location.
