Backup Problem

I have Win XP Pro/SP2. I have made a backup (complete backup) to my external
usb hard drive, but my A: drive does not work. Is there a way to write the
ASR files onto a bootable cd disk? The backup options only give A: drive as
an option. As it stands right now, if my C: drive fails, will I be able to
access/restore the backup files from the external drive??

ASR only works with a floppy disk.

If you're serious about backing up the contents of your system's hard drive to
your external USB drive, you might want to consider an imaging program such as
Acronis True Image or Norton Ghost. While neither of these programs are free,
it's money well spent if you value your files. Both programs produce an image of
the drives on your system which, should a hardware failure occur, can easily be
restored to a new hard drive. You'd be back in business in a matter of minutes.

The backup program that comes installed on XP Pro does an acceptable job if all
you want to do is back up selected data files.

Good luck

That is completely dependant on your backup program and supporting material.
Example: If your C drive fails, some backups allow you to remove the C drive
and
install your backup. Others such as mine, allow me to remove the bad C
drive,
install a new HD and then transfer the data from the backup to the new
drive.
Study the features of your backup program.

No, there is not.

There is another option. Do not take this type of backup.

Or, don't use ntbackup, but instead one of the many more modern backup
utilities.

No, not with ASR, if you don't have a floppy.

New floppy drives are around $10. You can also get USB floppy drives for a
little more.
