Xp backup utility won't restore

Hi, XP pro was reinstalled due to a hard drive crash. Everything is working
now except I can't get the backup that was created on a external drive to
restore. You go through the whole backup restore process and everything seems
to work but when you pull up the report every file has:
Warning unable to create "C:\_Share hard link data
Reason The system cannot find the path specified
Thanks for any help

The path is infact wrong as it points to a shortcut...

However I would not even bother with MS backup at all...
I'd just burn or copy the data...or else use a 3rd party backup utility

So how do I restore my files?

Ok...I guess to retrieve your data you will have to use ms-backup.

When you go to run msbackup and opt to restore...
you should see your backup device and have an option to select it.

If it is not there...then it will need to be installed

The program is installed. I'm able to run the restore option but that's when I get the path error

Do not go with whatever default path has apparantly come up...
at this point you will need to manually select the path to the backup drive
