problems accessing remotes files when using remote desktop connect

We have our windows server on the main office using 192.168.1.100 which runs
an application used by local and remote users.
On remote offices (let say one computer on one of the remote offices is
192.168.2.10), we can map a public driver on that remote computer to our main
server , let's say 'P:', and user have no problem accessing files from that
folder.
Remote users don't use the public folder often, this remote user is required
to use frecuently some files from the public folder, and there is no problem
with that but we just noticed this week that if the user has the remote
desktop connection to the server running and then tries to open one of the
public files, the application of the public file (word, excel, corel) got
freeze. We tried disconnecting the remote desktop connection and had no
problem with opening the remote file.
I'm trying to detect if this is the same 'pattern' for all of the remote
users or just for this computer.
Can be RDC be causing problems when accessing a remote file? the remote
desktop connection is used only for another application not related with the
files users need to access.
Any help will be really appreciated
