Hi,

There are three of us that use this particular PC at
home. My wife and I are able to log on and find all out
personal files, etc. in place. However, through today -
25/10/03 - when our daughter logs in, the system is
treating her as though she is a brand new user. This is
after we have been on XP for over a year.

She is very upset as she thinks she has lost all her
files.

We have tried system restore without success. Is there
anything we can do? I do not believer the PC can
completely lose all of her information.

Thanks

It sounds like your daughter's user account got deleted or corrupted.
Are you sure one of you wasn't doing a little "housekeeping" and
removed it by accident? I had a little laugh at your last paragraph.
Although we can hope your daughter's information is not lost this time,
of *course* the pc can lose information! That's why you are supposed to
back up your data regularly. Log in with an account that works and that
has administrative privileges. Create a new account for your daughter -
name it differently than the old one. Now, do a search for one of your
daughter's files - doesn't matter which one, you're just trying to
locate the files. When you find the files, copy them to the MyDocuments
folder of the new account. Then you can delete the old, corrupted user
account.
