problem with XP pro and Xerox Workcentre M940 printer

Hi, I just did a clean install of Windows XP. I
downloaded and loaded all of the updates. I have
installed a xerox M940 multifunction Printer (Printer was
running on XP before this for at least a year.)

Now it will not run. The folks a xerox tell me that it's
due to one of the updates that I did for Win XP.They said
the only thing they could come up with was to uninstall
everything, do another clean install of xp and load the
drivers without doing the critical updates.

I REALLY don't want to do this agin!

Has anyone else had this problem before. If so...what did
you do?
