Problem with Vista's sleep function

Upon waking up my computer, my internet connection is down and I can't
recover it no matter what I unplug and plug back in. The icon in the system
tray shows the computer and the globe as if it is connected, but mousing over
the icon won't bring up its status.

Second problem, after waking up from a sleep state, automatic shut down and
restarting freezes at the "Shutting Down" message. This forces me to manually
restart which can't be good for my computer.

Help?? And please try to keep it simple.

Does it come back if you right click the connection and select "Diagnose &
Repair"?

The system tray icon does not respond to any kind of clicking when I have
this problem, but right now the diagnose and repair finds no problems.

You need to find out what's hanging the system. Since this appears to be a
repetitive issue, have you checked Event Viewrs under Administrative Tools?
Check its various tabs for red warnings, especially those that might
correspond to when you have this issue. The information is rather cryptic
but something within might reveal the source of the problem.
