Problem with view properties changing

For some reason, my Windows Explorer view will
suddenly change for no apparent reason from "list" view
to "thumbnails" view. I will reset the view to "list" and
go to the tools menu, select folder options, and select
the option to apply current folder properties to all
folders. This works for a few days or a week, but then
the view will once again switch back to "thumbnails"
view, again all by itself.

How can I keep this from happening?
