problem with video adapter driver

We've got a dell dimension (450MHz) computer with an nvidia velocity 128
riva (agp) video card. Windows xp (sp3) is providing a driver for it.

The problem is that in "display" (control panel) there are no buttons for
setting the resolution, etc. There is no "advanced" button either. Under
"display properties" it shows "theme" with a sample and nothing else.

Help appreciated.

Try video drivers from Dell's web site.

As it turns out,, for some reason the resolution settings, etc., aren't
showing up in the "classic" view of the control panel "display" option, but
are showing up in the "category view" "appearances and themes".

Dell doesn't have a windows xp driver for the velocity 128 video card. They
do have a windows nt4 driver, but I couldn't get xp to recognize it. Nvidia
doesn't have an xp driver either.

But the problem was solved by not using the classic view of the control
panel.

nVidia does not even have any driver for Windows XP for that adapter.
If the chip maker (nVidia) does not even provide a base driver, then
the PC manufacturer will never have any either.

You should consider replacing the card.

Egads! You should consider replacing more than the video card!
AGP cards are fairly obsolete, hard to find, and are out preformed by even
the inexpensive PCI-E cards.
(However, Office Depot, Staples, Best Buy and the like are still trying to
unload what few AGP cards they might have at high prices!)
Time to replace the whole thing!
