Problem with System Restore

I am running XP Pro ver.5.1, service pack 2. Also McAfee virusscan 10.
After running system restore when the computer reboots I get the error
message "Some components of ActiveShield are either missing or might not have
been installed properly." I then have to reinstall McAfee VirusScan
(downloading about 14 MB from the internet) which is a bit of a pain. Can
this problem be avoided? Help to do so would be appreciated.

Thanks

Can you save the McAfee files to a folder and burn them to a CDROM?.
Can you create a new Restore point that includes the updates?.

Hi JJ,

What I believe happened was that the restore point chosen was created before
McAfee was installed. If this is the case any monitored McAfee files would be
removed, along with registry entries. This is true for just about any installed
application updates. To work around this either choose a restore point created
after McAfee was installed or uninstall McAfee before restoring the system.

For more information take a look at what should I do before and after running
System Restore.

Thanks for your response to my query.
The McAfee files are already stored in a folder called McAfee.com and I
could easily burn them to CD-ROM. However, I would not be certain that all
the files required to run the program are in that folder, others could be in
different folders, shared files etc.
The problem is that I do not know where the updates are stored.

Thanks for responding to my query.
That is what I have been doing but I do not have broadband it takes a long
time to download all the updates again. There appears to be an awful lot
of them.

No. The problem caused by missing components in activeshield is experienced
at resolution points long after McAfee VirusScan 2006 V10 was installed on
25/04/06. In each case the resolution point chosen was only a few days
before the current date. The missing updates are not just those that might
have come in after the restore date, they appear to go right back to the
beginning and take a long time to download.
It would appear that the McAfee updates are not being monitored.
Interestingly though if I “undo the last restorationâ€, McAfee VirusScan
(including updates) are fully restored (but, of course, so is the original
issue which the restoration was intended to resolve).
It looks as though I may have no option other than to download all of the
McAfee updates each time I use System Restore.
