Problem with speakers under XP

my hard disk contains 2 Operating systems. XP and 2000.
the speakers under 2000 work properly, and generate
sounds, the same speakers under XP do not generate sounds
any one can help to solve this problem
 
Have you install the latest sound card drivers while in Windows XP?
