Selecting speakers

I have been recording music using my computer. I have desktop speakers and a
large floor speaker. When I play a CD or input through the microphone it
comes out all the speakers, but the operating system sounds and the playback
from my sequencing software only come out the desktop speakers. I have the
speaker setup set on Quadraphonic, and have tried changing it to other
settings, but it has not made any difference. I am currently running XP;
when I was running Windows 98, I sometimes had this problem but could usually
solve it by changing to a different speaker configuration, although the
results were unpredictable. Any suggestions?

You could go to the website of your soundcard manufacturer and
update the drivers. The soundcard is in the back of your PC where
you plug in the speakers. You'll probably have to open the case to
read the name on it, unless you already know it.
