Problem with Sony DVD-Rom/CD-RW

Getting read errors:
SCSI Sense - Key:3 (Medium Error) ASC:11 ASCQ:05

When attempting to play music CD - I get hardware failure - system halts.

Any ideas will be appreciated,

Might be time for a new drive. Hardware faults on CD/DVD drives are rarely
repairable.
