Problem with security center

My XP pro computer is behind a NAT router/gateway/firewall on
a LAN so I do not need the Windows XP firewall, and therefore I have it
turned off. After installing Windows XP SP 2, this new windows security
center keeps bugging me that I don't have a firewall and I am not protected.
I follow the procedure and go to the recommendations and check the box that
says "I have a firewall solution that I'll monitor myself... blah blah blah"
and the pest goes away - until the next bootup, then its back again, bugging
me that I don't have a firewall and I am not protected. Again, I go to the
recommendations and the box that says "I have a firewall solution..." and I
find that it is not checked. This box must somehow get un-checked during
shutdown or bootup. It is becoming a big PEST! Anybody else experience this?
Is this check box associated with a registry key or what, and why doesn't it
remain set after shutdown?
Thanks
Victor

Hi

Control Panel/Security Center, click on the "Change the Way
Security Center Notifies Me" link in the left pane.

If the "Change the Way Security Center Notifies Me" doesn't stick
when you reboot, you can do the following:

To "solve" this problem, you can disable the Security Center service.

Start/Run --> services.msc

Find "Security Center" in the list, double click on it, set
"Startup type" to Disabled.

This worked for me.

Open Control Panel, open Administrative Tools,
open Services, scroll to Security Center, right click,
select properties,
from the dropdown list under Startup Type,
select "Disabled," click apply
and ok. When you reboot you should no longer have the
issue.
