problem with scrolling

I have a Pavillion notebook. It is only approx. 4 mths
old. I have experienced several e the usual problems. I
just had to reinstall XP. After I installed it, the only
desktop icon I have is recycle bin. Also when I scroll,
it moves in 'waves' not the usual manner. What can I do
to rectify these problems?

Icons on your desktop:

Right click on your taskbar and go to properties / START MENU / select
Classic Start Menu and click OK.

WAVES:

Try going to control panel and then to display properties and settings tab
and try changing your resolution. OR select the advanced button and go to
the monitor tab and change your screen refresh rate.
