Problem with Remote Assistance

I am running windows xp on a cable connection. I have a software
firewall which I have turned off. I am trying to help my Mom with her
computer but after she sends me the remote RA request and I click
accept in MSN Messenger nothing happens. My mom is on a dial up
connection with no firewall.

I tried connecting to my Aunt's Computer the same way with the exact
same result. I recently got stupid and tried to install an old windows
3.1 driver for a dvd-rom player and ended up having to format my
system and restore it. I was able to remote connect to others before
that time and now since the restoration I cannot. I have checked the
remote properties and both boxes are checked. I just can't think what
else it could be. Any ideas?

It's fixed. I had Windows Messenger turned off and was using MSN
Messenger. Apparently you can't do that. I wish I knew why though.
