Problem with New System Build

D

Dave

Just built a new system based around the Intel BOXD945PSNLK Motherboard
using 2GB of PC5400 DDR2 RAM, and an eVGA GeForce 7800 GTX and I cannot
get it to boot at all.

When I hit the power button the power lights and HDD light come on,
Processor fan spins up, PSU fan spins up, Graphics card fan spins up but
no display whatsoever and no POST bleeps!

Tried re-seating all power connectors, RAM, and Video Card but still
nothing! Also tried reseating processor.

Any ideas guys?

Does the motherboard have onboard graphics?

You might try some different memory. I had a similar problem on an asus
a8n-sli where I didn't get any post screen, but all the fans and lights
came on and it was a memory compatibility issue. Make sure the memory
you're using is compatible with the board. Intel has a memory
compatibility page here
http://www.intel.com/design/motherbd/sn/sn_mem.htm.

Try a known good power supply of sufficient wattage.

I don't have any spare memory that will work int his system
unfortunately and yes I did check that the RAM I bought is compatible
with the MoBo.

Power Supply is brand new and has been tested in another system.

Of similar spec? Just because it tested fine in a p3 1ghz doesn't
mean it'll work in the system you built. Also, try pulling the ram
and booting without it, if ram has anything to do with it it should
beep like crazy without it.

Removed RAM and NO BEEP no POST! Not looking good!

no USB devices?
try disconnecting the keyboard and mouse
no parallel printers
disable on board audio

Are you aware that this MoBO requires two power sources.....1) the
conventional ATX board connecter, and 2) another special 4-pin 12 V
connector for the processor?

Could be memory. I have an old DOS 7.1 box that houses a Super
Socket 7 AGP mainboard with an Intel Pentium 233Mhz MMX, and 128MB
SDRAM. I had recently upgraded a friend's system, and aquired the
128MB SDRAM DIMM from their old non-booting system. I tried adding it
to my DOS box to bring it upto 256MB, but when that DIMM is installed,
the system shows no display. Everything spins up, but no display, and
no post codes.

If there's no beeps at all and it don't post, the CPU is most likely shot,
I'm afraid to say.

Yes, both connectors are hooked up.

I don't even get a POST code when there is NO RAM in the system!

Is it possible you could strip it down just to bare components (mobo,
cpu, mem, g/fx and power supply on a desk? No case required. Plug it
all together and then short across the 2 power pins to see if starts up.

I believe mobo needs to sit on something insulated also. Others here
could expand on this.

This should rule out any kind of shorting out on the case that is
preventing it booting. Also, just as an afterthought, is the clear cmos
jumper set correctly?
