VGA -No display problem

Just built a cheap system for a friend.

ASUS Vintage V3-M2V890 - SKT AM2 - With 300W PSU
AMD Athlon 64 X2 4800+ 2.5GHz
Crucial 1GB DDR2 667MHz/PC2-5300
Samsung SpinPoint HD501LJ 500GB SATAII Hard Drive

Turn it on and it all seems to power up ok - cpu fan spinning, hard drive
powering up, green diode light showing on m'board etc

But not getting any output from VGA socket

Tried sticking a PCI Express graphics card in and no output from that VGA
output either.

I presume the motherboard's faulty ?

Could it be anything else - cpu or RAM ?

Also another question - Can you test m'boards for VGA output with nothing
added - ie no cpu or RAM added ?

Thanks

Tony

numlock or capslock light knock on and off when you press the keys?

Did you remember to connect the extra connection from the psu into the
motherboard?

Doh !!

Took RAM out and out it back in again - works ok - Must have been just not
seated correctly ( even though it had appeared to be installed ok )

Thanks anyway Gaz

That suggests a problem with either CPU, memory or graphics cards.
I suggest it is more likely the first two that the graphics. Try
reseating the memory and ensuring that it is in the correct sockets
to see if that helps.

The CPU and RAM are the two things that are needed before it will
begin video output. Have you got the internal speaker connected
(the one going to the motherboard, not the sound card). If so you
will likely be getting a distinctive pattern of beeps. Look that
up in the BIOS guide and that will tell you what the problem is,
assuming no defective components that will be either CPU, RAM or
video.
