problem with Microsoft Outlook 2000 Professional freezing

I've got Microsoft Office 2000 Professional. Running it under Windows
XP Home Edition. Damn thing is has been just started freezing. More
specifically, Outlook is freezing, while the other programs, Word,
Excel, Access etc. seem to be running okay. But a few seconds after
starting Outlook and it freezes.

I was told that to run Outlook 2000 under XP, you need to download
updates from Microsoft. I've done that. Still freezing.

I see a similar freezing problem posted in this group. Someone say
theirs was freezing when the slash screen comes up. The advice given
was to delete outcmd.dat. I'm getting past that the splash screen.
I'm several seconds into Outlook before it freezes. And, I've searched
for outcmd.dat and it's not coming up in my search.

Any clues for me?

Does it freeze when starting Outlook in safe mode? (start > run >
outlook.exe /safe > ok button)

one other thing... is outlook in internet mail only or corporate workgroup
mode? (if you have a tools > accounts in outlook, its internet mail only
mode. tools > services is corporate workgroup mode.) the reason that i ask
is that if you have applied sp3 for office 2000 and running in internet mail
only mode, check the task manager to see if outlook is consuming 100% of the
cpu. (will be %50 if running a dual cpu configuration) there is an update
for this because SP3 introduced a problem when outlook is in imo mode and
the use of reminders.
