Problem with Internet Connection

Amavi

Hi !

I Had windows 2000 installed in my machine previously.
(The modem was netrodragon which is a internal modem) And
the modem worked perfectly. Infact I configured an
internet connection as well.

But a few days back I tried to update my OS to Windows XP.

Now the internet connection wizard will only show
broadband connection option. The dialup option is
disabled. (56kbps)

When the modem drivers were installed there was a warning
that the drivers are not digitally signed. But i said ok
and went through with the setup. Now the modems are shown
perfectly in the device manager.

But why cant i setup a internet connection. Only the
broadband connection is shown. The first two options are
not shown. (The first option is the dialup connection)

Connect using a dial-up modem or VPN option in the New Connection Wizard is
unavailable (gray out)
SYMPTOMS:
1) After installed SP1 for XP and then use the System Restore feature to
restore Windows to a state before the installation of the service pack.
2) After upgraded your computer to XP Pro from Win98, ME and XP Home. You
may experience the following symptoms: a) The Connect using a dial-up modem
or VPN option in the New Connection Wizard is unavailable (gray out). b) The
Network Connections folder is empty. c) ICS and ICF services do not start
because of a dependency failure. d) In the Event Viewer, you may get Event
ID: 7023, Event ID: 20035 or error 5 with Access is denied, Remote Access
Connection Manager failed to start because it could not create buffers or
Could not start the Remote Access Connection Manager service on Local
Computer.
Resolution: 1) To resolve this problem, reinstall SP1 for Windows XP. 2)
Delete the NextID value
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Telephony\Cards\NextID,
and then restart the computer. 3) Delete the Telephony key
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Telephony.

Hi

Windows 2000 and windows XP may appear to be essentially
the same product, however this said, 98 and ME were
supposed to be the same product.

Try deleting the modem drivers from the device manager.
Shut down the machine and restart. When it asks for the
new deivce drivers, offer the disc containing the drivers
you used.

Once the drivers are installed, take a look at system
information (program files, accessories, system tools,
system infromation).

See if the modem is trying to share an IRQ with anything
else. Also can you remember what Address and IRQ were
used before, I had a modem that would not work unless it
was installed on COM1, and XP insisted on putting it on
COM3 thus it did not work. Also I hate to state the
obvious be 1. check for an XP driver. 2 try putting the
card into a different slot. This may just assign a
different IRQ and jog it into action.

Regards

yogiman.
