problem with HP laptop...please help

I was trying to repair my Windows XP on my laptop with the CD when the
system crashed and then windows couldn't load, a thrashing sound
followed. after that, the HP page before the Windows XP logo just
stayed static ie. it was just black with the HP logo. I got into set-up
and discovered that the hard disk had the caption [none] next to it.
What does this mean? Is the hard disk gone and so are my files? What
can I do?

please I need some answers cuz I don't know what to do.
