Problem with hidden files

C

Chinito

I have several computers in which I can't see the hidden files, although I
have checked the view option for folders to see them. Funny is that I could
before. I don't know if it is spyware or what. Run several spyware
software, cleaned the machine but same results. On another computer I can
switch the view on an off.

it's driving me nuts, please help

Thanks

The way to see most hidden files is to go to Start, Control Panel,
Folder Options, View, Advanced Settings and verify that the box before
"Show hidden files and folders" is checked and "Hide protected operating
system files " is unchecked. You may need to scroll down to see the
second item. You should also make certain that the box before "Hide
extensions for known file types" is not checked.

Notwithstanding there remain some files which remain hidden. You still
will not see the System Volume Information folder.

Hidden files can also show up in the Most fragmented Files list in Disk
Defragmenter. Open Disk Defragmenter and click on Analyse. Select View
Report.

Hope this helps.

Chinito,

Have you changed your log-in details at any point? There can be cases where
only the computer owner can see them.

If you're an advanced computer user, you can check regedit to check if 'View
Hidden Files or Folders' is enabled properly in the registry by doing the
following:
Go to registry editor by running regedit in the run box.
Go to this key:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\
Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Advanced

In the right hand area, double click hidden and change the value to 1.

If that is all good, and you still can't see hidden files and folders, drop
a reply and we can try a different approach.

It would be handy to check for viruses also, this program is very handy and
can be used to restore settings to default, setting hidden files and folders
to default with it.
