The Windows dialer does not support voice modems.

G'Day Jovi,

The Outlook dialler - dials.

That's it! That's all it does! Finish! End! No more! D I A L S !!

If the MODEM you use is capable of Sound, then you will
hear the ring tone - and no more if it is normally configured.

If it is not configured to cut Sound on connect, then you will
hear the other party answer.

The MODEM does that - not Outlook!

Just to be clear - OUTLOOK DOES NOT SUPPORT
PHONE CALLS!!!!!!!!

I can't say it any more clearly than Pat did.

gentlemen, I am new to this topic, and have read some of the posts. It
sounds clear to me that the only thing Outlook facilitates is literally
getting on the line and dialing. Then the question is whether there is a way
to get it to dial "on behalf of" a regular phone. Would you have a splitter
or something that goes into the jack on the wall (or VOiP box), and then has
both the phone and modem coming into it? Then you'd have Outlook dial, and
pick up the handset when it rings, so that the phone can do the communication
work? Sounds like that's all that's possible, as opposed to what I was
hoping, which was to actually call on a plugged in system mic, with the
speakers providing the other end. Am I right in the summary here?

Thanks. Boris

G'Day Boris,

That's precisely what Outlook does. When it dials, it displays a
dialog.

The Modem and Handsetshare a standard connection to a
common phone line.

When the other party answers, you pick up the handset and
dismiss the dialog.

works like a charm. I didn't even need a splitter, remembering that most
modems (as mine does) have one in port and then one out. So the line went
in, the phone went out, and the dialer starts the process nicely.

Thanks much.

Hallo Pat, hallo Russ

Thanks for your clear answers about using Outlook for phoning, I figured out
the same after seraching long time. But I have another problem with it: I use
a normal phone and use Outlook with the Modem just as dialer. This works
well: I dial and if I pick the phone at the right time I have the Call. But
the Problem is that I have to wait until Outlook dialed and then get the
Phone at the right moment after dialing. If I pick the phone while dialing,
it doesn't work anymore, there will be no connection. Or if I choose "Speak"
the dialing is aborted as well. Do you know a solution about that ?

Thanks !
Chris

No. The Windows dialer is a very simple tool with no support for voice
modems.

Hallo Russ

Thanks for your answer. Is there another Dialer on the Market, which could
solve this problem?

Best Regards
Chris

Perhaps. I don't have the time to peruse third party add-ins.
Might want to try a Google search.

Hallo Russ

Now I found a dialer. But how can I change that Outlook does take this
dialer and not the Windowsdialer for phoning? I searched all Helppages about
that, but it is nowhere described.

Thanks for answering!

There is no Outlook dialer. Outlook uses the Windows dialer.

Never mind. I misread your post. So you know have a third party dialer?
You should see if it has any option to integrate with Outlook. As far as I
know, you can't change the dialer Outlook uses. It will always default to
the Windows dialer.
