Daniel

Hi, I have XP Pro on a PC with 1.3 Gig P4, 784 meg RAM
and a 40 and a 80 Gig hard drive..

I am trying to create a an Automated System Recover Boot Disk
but when I start the backup process in Windows Backup,
I get a box saying

"The Backup could not be completed due to an error"
"To see detailed information, click report.

The report says

Backup Status

Operation: Backup

Active backup destination: File

Media name: "ASR Recovery.bkf created 25/06/2005 at 5:09 PM"

Error returned while creating the volume shadow copy:80042301

Aborting Backup.

----------------------

The operation did not successfully complete.

Can anyone tell me what I am doing wrong.

thanks

Start by backing up the registry as shown in this knowledge base article:
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/322756#2

Click on Start, then Run. Type "Regedt32" and click ok.

In the registry editer. Expand HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE, expand system, and click
on setup. In the right pane, make sure the values of SystemSetupInProgress
and UpgradeInProgress (if it exists) are 0. If not, change the value. Close
the registry editor.

Click on Start, then Run. Type "regsvr32 ole32.dll" and click ok. Click ok
on the dialog box that pops up.

Click on Start, then Run. Type "services.msc" and click ok.

In the services list, find the following services, highlight them and click
on restart.

COM+ Event System
COM+ System Application
Volume Shadow Copy

Retry the backup operation.

Thanks for your help, I did what your post recommended and
at first it did not work, then I put the services on Automatic,
rebooted, and it worked.

thanks
