ASR backup problem

WinXp sp1
I am trying to prepare for SP2 upgrade.
When I try do do an ASR backup I get this message,
Backup Status
The files for the recovery diskette could not be created. The operation was
aborted.
What's up with that?

Also when I try to backup to a CD(*E:backup1.bkf), I get 'file name is
invalid" or something. Why is this invalid? How to backup to CD?

Are you using XP Home? That would be the cause of the error because the
Ntbackup on XP home does not support the ASR feature.

Ntbackup will not backup to CD unless 3rd party CD packet writing
software is installed, and then will only backup to a single CD, it
can't span CDs.

There are much better backup options available including disk imaging
programs such as Norton Ghost, Acronis True Image, BootitNG or Drive
Image, or other traditional backup solutions such as Stompsoft's Backup
MyPC.
