problem with Adobe add-on

Everytime the free Adobe program I have (that I use to read pdf
files...Adobe 7.0) I have asks me if I want to update it and I do, I
have problems.

I just updated it and now I can't get to a link...XP is telling me that
it is having a problem with an ADD-ON. I've followed the instructions
for disabling the add-on but can't even find the add-on, even after
restarting my computer and rebooting it.

How can I disable or get rid of the Acro PDF.dll (Adobe pdf Browser
Control) file that XP is telling me is the problem I encountered?

I was thinking of just removing the entire Adobe programs but then how
could I read pdf files?

Thanks...

Oh, and I forgot to mention: I also went into the add/remove programs
utility that XP provides but, again, other than removing the entire
Adobe program, I can't find reference to "Adobe pdf Browser Control" in
order to remove it!

The browser add-on is located in control panel | internet options | programs
tab | manage addons. Look for the offending item and disable it. You can
also uninstall Adobe Acrobat and reinstall if you want. You can search your
computer for the offending file name and delete it to get rid of it
completely if uninstalling leaves it. There are alternatives to Acrobat but
I forget the names. A quick google turned up these 2

There are others out there as well.

The free Foxit Reader works very well:
