Problem with Access 2003 and ODBC

Hi,

I am trying to install an Access 2003 DB onto a PC running Windows 2000 SP4
+ Office Pro 2003.
The database requires a few tables to be linked to an external database
(non-MS) through an ODBC DSN.
The DSN works perfectly with other apps (eg: MS Excel import data) but fails
with MS Access.
The following occurs:

1 - Select File -> Get External Data -> Import
2 - in the "files of type" combobox, scroll down to "ODBC Databases()"

Normally, the ODBC DSN selection window opens... but on this computer,
nothing happens.

I have tried the following:
- install latest Office 2003 service packs
- install latest MDAC components (2.8 SP1)
- reinstall Office 2003

Any ideas?

ouch...tricky stuff. you first say "linked" but then show "import"

if it is a one time import or at least just a periodically performed import
- life could be made to work if maybe you import to excel - which you say
works - and then import the excel into access....an ugly work around that
avoids rather than fixes the problem but hey......

on the otherhand if it is a true link that must be up and running all the
time - then I don't have a fix and you'll need to keep
looking/experimenting.....
