Problem with 3Com NIC on Asus P4P800 board

Rob Prikanowski

I just received my new system with an Asus P4P800 Deluxe
motherboard. However, I cannot get the onboard 3Com NIC
(3C940) to work under Windows XP Pro SP1. The device is
not recognised at all. I tried installing the drivers from
the CD and the message indicates that all went well, but
still no network card in the hardware manager.

I tried a fresh install of XP, to no avail.

Either I am doing something wrong or the board is dead.
Before I return it, I would like to make sure that this is
not a common problem.

By the way, my 1394 port is also not visisble.

Any ideas?

Hello

I have that same brd and no problem at all for me, make sure
that you have the devices enabled in the Bios and am pretty sure
you already do, another option go to www.asus.com and downlaod
the drivers from the website. If that also fails after you have done
both suggestions I would return the board and get a replacement

Hi Alvin,

Tried both. The devices are enabled and I got all the new
drivers from Asus. Still no network.

I think I am going to return the board.

Don't know if this will mean anything, but have you set
up your network properly? Could it be your service
provider to the net? Are you using a router box? Are your
IP adresses correct with your server? Have you installed
XP's network?

I had a heck of a time with my ASUS P4S8X-X board. That
one uses the SiS 900 ethernet on board card, but I found
a fix at ASUS.

Good luck anyway, Christopher
