I have a couple of users that are having issues operating their directly
attached USB scanners here at work. I'm not sure if there is some kind of
security policy in place or what. Any ideas as to what I should look for?

How old are the scanner? Some pre-XP scanners may require a user account
with "administrator" type access and not "limited" user type accounts.

They are less than 2 years old... Maybe I'll try what you are saying too,
about the accounts... Thanks!

Step 1: get the _exact_ error message and specific symptoms.

"Having issues" is a bit too vague.

I've seen this with printers (HP, especially) and it's always been a
matter of relaxing a few registry permissions. That's easy to band-aid
and much safer than simply giving the user Admin membership.

They flat out can't use the scanner at all, says "TWAIN device not found",
but as soon as someone else logs logs onto the workstation, that person CAN
use it fine. It seems like it's a Rights setting or Profile setting, but I
can't find out what the different between accounts and profiles is. I've
looked at their Active Directory accounts and they are in the same identical
groups. I'm in a new job and the last IT guy set all this up, but he got
fired so I can't find out any info from anyone, as he was the sole IT person
for this company...
