Problem transferring XP files from old computer - which drive?

I've copied across about 60G of files from my old XP laptop to my new Vista
laptop. I simply opened Computer, then dragged the folders from the external
drive I'd plugged in into the 'Music'/'Pictures'/'Documents' tabs at the side
of the page. However, it now tells me that my Vista drive (C:) is now almost
full. My Data drive (E:) is empty. Should I have copied the files into the
data drive? Is the Vista drive for program and system files only?

60g is a lot of files.......how big is your C drive?? how big is your E
drive??.....is it 1 drive partitioned into 2 parts..or is it actually 2
seperate HD??
You can save music/picture/personal files to any new folder created on the E
drive...if there is room .

You can install new programs to any of the 2 drives..there usually is a
choice given during the installation.

HI Peter - no idea whether the drives are separate or partitioned. How do I
find out? My C: drive is called 'Vista' and my E: drive is called 'Data'. I
bought the laptop with Vista pre-installed.

Sounds like an Acer Laptop.......one hard drive 2 partitions.....Look under
control panel/admin tools/computer management/disk management
There you can see if its one drive 2 partitions and the size
You can move some/all of your personal files to a folder on the Data
drive...create a folder and then just drag and drop
You can also change the IE cache to reside on the Data drive.......
you can also change the default Mail folder to the Data drive......both
options are under tools under their respective programs.
Future program installations can be done to the Data drive...there is
usually a choice during the installation.
Hopefully this will help you safe some space on C
