Problem to avoid XP from reinstalling an installed printer using oem driver

I'm using Windows XP professional SP1 french edition and
my printer is an Epson Stylus Photo 700 connected to the
parallel port LPT1.
I want to install the printer with the oem driver
supplied by and downloaded from Epson since the Epson
Status Monitor utility will only work with this driver.
I installed the printer with the oem driver using the
Wizard from the Add Printer button of the Printer Control
Panel. This was successfull, an Epson Stylus Photo 700
printer was created, the printer did work and the Status
Monitor also.
The next time I re-booted the computer, XP displayed a
message indicating that a new hardware - the Epson photo
700 printer - was detected and automatically installed a
second Epson Stylus Photo 700 printer using the Windows
XP supplied driver. The printer works with anyone driver,
but the Status Monitor doesn't work anymore since it
doesn't find any of the printers.
If I uninstall the Windows XP driver and delete the 2nd
printer, XP will rediscover the printer at the next boot
and reinstall it.

Is there a way to avoid XP discovering the printer when
already installed using an oem driver, or to avoid
automatically installing a new printer? Or what can I do
to ensure that the printer is installed only once using
the oem driver.

The LPT1 port is defined as ECP in the bios and the box
Enable Legacy Plug and Play Detection of the LPT Port
Settings is unchecked.
