Printer Driver probs with XP

Hello.
New to Windows XP here, just updgraded from windows 98.
The system doesnt realize that there is a printer
connected via the usb port. I use an Epson Stylus Color
740 Inkjet... According to the epson support site, you
cant download any drivers that are compatible with XP but
that XP should automatically recognize the printer and to
use the XP driver for the printer.

anyways, problem is, I cant print. -_-
any suggestions?
