problem switching between users on welcome screen

after i log on and then i switch users i can't switch to my wifes acct. I
went to control panel and went to user accts and then i went to ways of
switching accts and i checked both boxes fast switching and the other one and
then i hit apply and i still cant go between accts unless i log off and then
log her back on. when i go back to the user acct the bottom box that says
fast switching is not highlighted anymore. so i guess it is not applying that
option. thanks for the help. i am using xp pro

Click Start, Run and type Services.msc
Double-click "Terminal Services"
Set its Startup type to "Manual", and click OK
Restart Windows

You must also enable the welcome screen, else it won't work.
