Problem solved

It seems that there are some frames that were competing for space with some footers. By lowering the top margin of the footer, so that it appeared lower on the bottom of the page, I was able to make room for the centering of the page numbers.

Hi Gordon,

PLEASE do not change the subject of the thread--if you *must*, add "problem
solved" to the *end* of the subject line. I would not have bothered with an
unneeded reply had I seen your second post or anyone else's answer to your
problem, but the usual way to check is by subject line. In addition,
changing the subject makes the Google archives ineffective, as people
searching for answers to similar problems will never see the solution you
posted.

That said, review my post anyhow for related info. Note that the Insert
Page Numbers menu command puts the number in a frame, while inserting it via
the H/F toolbar does not.

Thanks for your post. I thought that I was "within" the thread when I posted my solution. Obviously, that was not the case. Your reasoning is well taken for not changing Subject headings. I had not thought of that, and I thank you for bringing it to my attention.

Moving a frame solved my problem, but I will experiment with your solution, as well.
