Hi,
I'm new so I hope someone can help me.
Someone sent me a slide show ( a .pps extension ) which I couldn't open. I
have Windows XP on a new computer I purchased from Dell 6 months ago. I
went to the Microsoft download site and downloaded the free "Office
PowerPoint Viewer 2003".

Now, I can open the slide shows, but only by right-clicking on the slide
show and then clicking on "Show" on the drop-down menu. When I do left
double-click, the instructions for my printer appears instead of the
slide-show opening. Why won't it open when I left double-click? Have I
done something wrong? I'm a 67 year-old novice and get confused sometimes
with all the new terminology!!

Can someone help please?
Thanks,
David

Thanks Luc,
It helped--yes and no. It made me think.
That ended up in my clicking on Control Panel>Folder Options>File Types.
Now, I was in a list of "Registered File Types". It had a list of
extensions on the left with the corresponding File Type on the right. I
highlighted PPS-Microsoft PowerPoint SlideShow. That opened up a page with
an "Advanced" button at the bottom. When I clicked on the Advance button,
it showed 2 "Actions". 1 was "Print"(which was highlited), the other,
"Show", which was not highlited. So, I reversed it so the "Show" was
highlited and clicked on "Default". With that, my problem was solved and
the slide shows open instead of the printer showing when I double
left-click!!
Thanks, even tho the link you gave me didn't tell me to do it. However,
there was something in it that made me go where I did!!

David,
Glad it is solved.
