Problem installing SP2

P

Phillip Shulman

I am trying to install SP2 on a desktop and keep getting the following
error:

Service Pack 2 setup could not back up registry value
HKLM\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\Eventlog\Security\EventMessageFile\.
5: Access is denied

One suggestion I found was to create a new administrator account and install
the SP from there, but the error message still appeared.

Any suggestions as to why this is happening?

I don't have a reason for the issue you described but I do know of a
situation that I think everyone needs to be aware...

A friend of mine wanted to update to SP2 with his system and kept getting
that famed "Blue Screen of DEATH"

It seemed that he needed to update his BIOS on his mother board in order for
SP@ to take.

Just a thought.

Which is one thing that he should have known to do before he ever installed
SP2.

Thanks for all the help and suggestions. I am sure one of these suggestions
will work when I give it a try again on Monday.
